Ground ambulance

The state protects you

Since January 1, 2025, if your plan covers the ride, an out-of-network ground ambulance may not bill you more than your plan's cost sharing, and your copay, coinsurance and deductible may not be higher than for an in-network ambulance. Your plan pays the ambulance the rate set by the local government where the ride started, or, if there is none, the lesser of 325% of the Medicare rate or the ambulance's billed charge. This protects people in covered health plans; the state law does not set a limit for people without insurance.

Law: Okla. Stat. tit. 36, 6050.1-6050.3 (Okla. Sess. Laws 2024, ch. 356, HB 2872; SB 1067 of 2025)

Law: Okla. Stat. tit. 36, 6050.1-6050.3

Itemized bills and price estimates in Oklahoma

Oklahoma has no general right to an itemized bill in state law. But if a creditor or collector sues you on a medical debt, it must attach a redacted itemization of the charges to the petition.

Law: Okla. Stat. tit. 12, 193(B)(1)

Price estimates

Health care providers must post cash prices for at least their 20 most common services, and other licensed health care facilities (not hospitals) must post cash prices for their most-used inpatient and outpatient codes, updated at least yearly. Since November 1, 2025, hospitals must post a machine-readable list of all standard charges and a consumer-friendly list of at least 300 shoppable services, and the State Department of Health may monitor compliance and take action. A hospital out of material compliance on your date of care may not collect that debt.

Law: Okla. Stat. tit. 63, 1-725.1 to 1-725.4, 1-725.11 to 1-725.17
