Itemized bills and price estimates in Missouri

Federal rights to your billing records (HIPAA) and, for Medicare, an itemized statement apply.

Price estimates

If you send a written request with a medical treatment plan (including the procedure codes) from your provider, a hospital, surgery center, imaging center, doctor or other licensed provider must give you a written estimate of the cost of the service, procedure, imaging or surgery within 3 business days. The estimate shows what you would be charged if no insurer or other third party paid any part. Posting the estimates publicly also counts. Hospitals must publish their undiscounted charges for the 100 most common inpatient diagnosis groups. Emergency departments are not covered.
